Help
Starting Bleegax, adding your notes, and finding your way around the map.
Getting started
Download the build for your system and unpack it. Start it with Bleegax.cmd
(Windows, double-click) or ./bleegax.sh (Linux). A window opens and stays open while Bleegax runs; your browser
opens on Bleegax at http://127.0.0.1:8000. Close the window to stop it. Starting it again while it runs just
opens the browser.
The first time, a page asks which model to fetch: Full, Small or No model. It suggests one from your
graphics card. To choose again later: on Windows, double-click Change model.cmd in the Bleegax folder; on Linux,
run ./bleegax.sh --setup.
Adding notes
In the map, Add data takes files, a zip, or (on your own computer) folders to watch: Bleegax checks a watched folder every minute and adds what is new or changed. You can also write a note straight into Bleegax with New card (C). After an upload, a first map appears in about a minute; the model then reads the notes in the background and the map gets richer as it does.
| From | What to give Bleegax |
|---|---|
| Google Keep | Your Google Takeout zip (Keep only is enough) |
| Apple Notes | Notes exported as Markdown or PDF, or the notes database from a Mac |
| Evernote | .enex export |
| OneNote | Pages or sections exported as Word, PDF or Single File Web Page (.mht) |
| Obsidian, Logseq, Bear, Joplin, Notion, UpNote | The vault or export folder (Markdown), Joplin .jex, Bear backup |
| Samsung Notes, Zoho Notebook, Simplenote, Standard Notes, Day One, Roam | Their export files |
| Microsoft Sticky Notes | Its plum.sqlite file |
| Documents | Word (.docx), PDF with text, plain text, Markdown, RTF, web pages |
| Chats | Chat exports as JSON |
Not yet: OneNote's own .one files (export them instead), handwriting, scanned pages, and pictures.
Reading the map
Every note is a star. Notes about the same thing gather into a topic, named by a headline over them. From a distance you see only the lanes between topics; gold lanes are the hidden connections, between notes from different places. Fly closer and the notes become cards, and the links between them appear.
The walk
Bleegax explains its map in short captions, one at a time. It flies to the strongest connection first and lights its three best links. Click a glowing note: it opens beside the note at the other end of its best link, with the reason between them.
- K or ★
- Keep this link. Kept links stay gold and collect under "★ kept" in the top bar.
- X or ✕
- Not related: the link is hidden.
- Space
- Cross over to the other note.
- N / P
- Next connection / back one.
- Esc
- Step back: from a link to its connection, then to the whole map.
- B
- Your brief: the links you kept, to copy or download as Markdown.
Moving around
- Drag
- Look around.
- Scroll
- Fly toward what is under the pointer.
- W A S D
- Fly; Q / E down and up, Shift faster.
- Double-click
- Dive in.
- H
- Back to the whole map.
- Shift-click, Shift-drag
- Select notes; a menu beside them offers to group, link or fly to them.
The View menu (it appears once you start moving) sets which links are drawn, the fog, the text size and the sound. Everything you do is saved with the session.
Your data
Bleegax keeps everything in one folder:
- Windows:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Bleegax(paste it into the Explorer address bar) - Linux:
~/.local/share/bleegax
Its data folder holds your sessions, models and ollama the model and the program that
runs it. Bleegax never changes or deletes your own files; it reads them. To save a session elsewhere or move it to another
computer, use the session menu's Save to file (a .bleegax file).
To remove Bleegax, close it and delete that folder and the unpacked download. Nothing else was installed.
Troubleshooting
Windows says it protected my PC
The tester build is not signed yet, so Windows doesn't recognise it. Click More info, then Run anyway.
Unpacking fails with "path too long" or files missing
Unpack it to a short folder, such as C:\Bleegax. Some of its files have long names, and Windows refuses paths
over 260 characters.
The browser doesn't open
Open http://127.0.0.1:8000 yourself; the window Bleegax runs in shows the exact address (it moves to 8001 and
up when 8000 is taken).
The model download stopped
Start Bleegax again: the download carries on where it stopped.
Topics have plain names, or notes have no descriptions
The model reads notes after the first map appears; on a computer without a graphics card that takes a while. The chip in the top bar shows what is running. With No model chosen, topics are named by their key words.
"This session was made by another version"
Tester builds don't carry old sessions over. Add your notes again in a new session.
Something else went wrong
The window Bleegax runs in shows what happened. Send us its last lines, your system, and the build number from the download page.
Questions
Does Bleegax send my notes anywhere?
No. The download version reads and analyses everything on your computer. The only network traffic is the one-time download of Ollama and the model.
Is the website the app?
No. This website is a demonstration with made-up people's notes. It has no upload, and the maps are saved pages. The app is the download.
What does it cost?
The tester build is free.
Is there a Mac version?
Not yet: Windows and Linux first.
Can I use my own Ollama or another model?
If Ollama is running on your computer with the models Bleegax needs, it is used automatically. Other models and servers are not offered in this build.
